DIY strap for FPV goggles
I decided to make my own strap for my FPV goggles, because I could not find any that would fit my requirements. I like mounting the battery for the goggles on the back of my head, but most straps use single buckle tensioning system and put the battery spot to the side. This strap uses two buckles, which leaves space on the back for the battery. In this post I am going to show you how to make one yourself.
Bill of materials
- ~50cm of wide elastic band. The default width for this band and most you can buy is 38mm. Get one that is thick around 2 mm. I am using this one.
- ~30cm of 25 mm elastic band. The width of this band is defined by the mounting points on the goggles, which are usually 25 mm.
- needle and thread
- 3D printed buckles and reducers (2 of each)
Assembly
1. Print the buckles
- You can find the files on my printables post. PETG should be enough for this.

2. Cut the elastic bands
- Cut one 50 cm strip out of the wide band. This is the optimal length for my head. Adjust the length if you think you have larger or smaller head.
- Cut two 6 cm strips and one 10 cm strip out of the narrow band.
- Melt the ends of the strips using a lighter to stop them from fraying.

3. Sew the mounting loops
- Sew the 6 cm strips onto the reducers to make the mounting loops. I am using running stitch running three times across. You can hide all the stitches, so don't worry how they look.
- Test if you can fit them on your goggles.

4. Sew the buckle loops
- Slide in the wide strip through the buckles and reducers according to the image. Don't forget the reducers as you can't add them later.

- It might be worth temporary fixing the ends and testing the fit before you sew the ends.
- Sew the ends of the wide strip to fix them to the buckles. The stitch should be far enough so that it is not under the buckle.
5. Sew the battery loop
- Sew the 10 cm narrow strip to the back of the strap. The space in between should be around 5 cm.
